Brake-by-wire

Because the brake pedal is connected by electrical signal lines, there is no need to install the by-wire brake actuator and the ESP^® at the firewall. This allows the brake components to be installed where it is most optimal in terms of NVH, manufacturing, and safety. Furthermore, the valuable space freed up on the firewall can now be used to install other components, such as head-up displays. This flexibility in choosing where to install the brake actuators helps to avoid the need for different variants for right-hand and left-hand drive vehicles.

Unlike a conventional braking system, a brake-by-wire system does not require additional pedal travel in the event of fading or leaking. Thus, thanks to by-wire technology, the travel of the brake pedal can be shortened significantly, and precious interior space can be gained for new interior designs. As an alternative to conventional pedals, Bosch is developing new pedal designs. The Bosch braking control pad offers an innovative solution. Instead of having to press down the conventional brake pedal, the driver presses a pedal pad with their foot and the integrated sensors transmit the driver’s braking command to the brake-by-wire system by means of electrical signals.
