Characteristics of ESP® hev
The regenerative braking system ESP® hev enables a purely generative deceleration of up to 0.2 g when combined with a conventional vacuum brake booster. If the ESP® hev is combined with an iBooster, purely generative decelerations of up to 0.3 g are possible.
The main characteristics and benefits in terms of automation, electrification and personalization of the latest ESP® generation also apply to ESP® hev. ESP® hev is equipped with the proven DC motor technology and offers a flow rate of 8 cm3/s per brake circuit. Alternatively, a variant with EC motor technology and a flow rate of 14 cm3/s is available.
ESP® hev is specifically designed for vehicles with diagonal brake circuit distribution (X distribution). Compared to the standard ESP®, the low-pressure accumulator chamber and the valve-filter principle were modified to enable regenerative braking. Additionally, an improved engine control for accurate speed regulation is applied.
If the ESP® hev is combined with a vacuum brake booster, a pedal-travel sensor is added to the brake pedal, and if required, a mechanical or electrical vacuum pump is added as well. If the electromechanical brake booster iBooster is used instead of a vacuum brake booster, then the vacuum generating components are not required. A separate pedal-travel sensor is not necessary because it is already integrated into the iBooster.
