The optimum engine control is based on current, exact information from the powertrain provided by sensors. The electronic engine management system measures the speed, position and, optionally, the rotational direction of the crankshaft via the crankshaft speed sensor. This data is used by the engine management system for controlling injection and/or ignition timing. The crankshaft speed sensor supports compliance with emission regulations as well as increased driving comfort due to smoother engine operation.
