Automated driving with electric power steering

The EPS controls and assists with the support of an intelligent electric motor the vehicle steering. Based on the steering signal from the torque sensor, the control unit calculates the optimal steering support and sends the information to the electric motor to provide the necessary assistance.

The EPS variants cover all requirements for the passenger car classes and even light commercial vehicles. Depending on the variant, the motor torque is transferred in various ways.

Besides the calculation of the steering support depending on the steering torque , the EPS can also support various vehicle parameters. Therefore Bosch has developed an intelligent steering concept that incorporates both the electronic control unit and innovative software, the basis for the connection to other vehicle systems and components.
